About

Who We Are ~ What We Do

Grandmothers 4 Grandmothers Regina (G4G Regina) is a group of Regina and area grandmothers and others who fundraise for the Stephen Lewis Foundation, to support African grandmothers who are raising a generation of children orphaned by AIDS. Our aim is to raise awareness, build solidarity, and mobilize support in the Regina community for Africa’s grandmothers.

We are united by our concern for African grandmothers and the children in their care and we want to make a difference. We host several fundraising events each year. Some of those events have been Art from the Attic, Scrabble:  A Fundraiser, and Fabric, Yarn & More Sale.  Other fundraising is through the sale of merchandise, some imported from community-based organizations in Africa, some made locally by our talented members.

This nation-wide movement has been inspired by and supports the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s (SLF) Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign. The responsibilities of G4G Regina are ultimately grounded in the overall goals of the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign:

• Raise funds in Canada to support the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s work with African grandmothers and the children in their care. The Foundation collaborates with community-based organizations that provide grandmothers with support such as food, school fees, income-generating activities, counselling, and home visits.

• Raise awareness in Canada about the expertise and leadership of Africa’s grandmothers and their struggle to secure a hopeful and healthy future for generations of children orphaned or made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS.

•Build solidarity among African and Canadian grandmothers in order to better understand and sustain the vital work being done to turn the tide of AIDS in Africa.
